Brent Stankowski
General Partner

Brent is an entrepreneurial leader with a track record of identifying market opportunity, building high-performing teams and delivering products / services that create shareholder value. Brent’s 20+ year technology career has included private and public company experience.

Brent was a co-Founder and President & CEO of Vertical Technologies Inc., the leading Canadian supplier of Legal ERP and Accounting Software to Law Firms and the professional services industry. Vertical Technologies was acquired by Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC) in 2004.

He was also the co-Founder President and CEO of Teamplate Inc., a Calgary based software company, with a multi-faceted global distribution channel. Since launching the Teamplate for .NET product line in November 2002, the company has secured an impressive list of blue-chip customers including; Verizon, Burger King, Boeing, Honeywell, Pemex, Astra Zeneca, Fiat, Siemens, the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Scotia Bank and others. Teamplate was acquired by Captaris (NASDAQ: CAPA) in 2003. Captaris is a leading provider of business information delivery solutions that integrate and automate the flow of messages, data and documents.

At Captaris, Brent served as the Vice President of Strategic & Global Alliances, and was part of the senior Management Team until March of 2006.

With emergingISV, Brent is a General Partner and has taken active Board and Management Roles with Portfolio Companies. 

Brent is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, College of Commerce with an Honors Degree in Finance.


Kevin Hein
General Partner

Kevin is a relationship-driven leader with the vision, passion, and technical knowledge required in implementing business focused, results oriented strategies. Kevin has a proven track record delivering high impact business strategies with a focus on planning, team-work, and effective management.

Previously, Kevin was the co-founder and board member of Teamplate Inc. (acquired by Captaris in 2003), and Vertical Technologies Inc. (acquired by Thomson Corporation in 2004).

As Founder and Vice President of Business Development for Teamplate Inc. Kevin was responsible for all strategic partnerships, tactical enterprise customer engagements, the worldwide partnership with Microsoft, and ultimately the acquisition by Captaris (NASDAQ: CAPA). Kevin was often profiled as one of the preeminent Microsoft global partners and often invited to speak at conferences around the world. Teamplate was founded in 2000 and acquired by Captaris in 2003.

As Founder and Vice President of Client Services for Vertical Technologies Inc. Kevin was responsible for all client services, strategic customer engagements, and corporate partnerships. Under Kevin’s tenure, Vertical maintained a 100% customer retention level (never lost a customer to a competitor), and helped grow the organization to be one of Canada’s top 100 software companies. Vertical was the leading Canadian supplier of Legal ERP software with a customer base throughout North America and was acquired by the Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC) in 2004.

In Kevin’s spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and trying to improve his golf game. Kevin is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan with an Advanced Degree in Computer Sciences.


Richard Weston
Venture Partner

Richard is an operational leader with an eye to detail. Richard has a proven track record of building and improving a company’s business processes, policies and management reporting systems in order to attain efficient and effective operations and real time reporting.

Richard was a co-founder and Chief Financial Officer of Teamplate Inc., acquired by Captaris Inc. (Nasdaq: CAPA) in the fall of 2003. As CFO, Richard was responsible for the creation and implementation of all Finance, HR, Legal and Administrative business processes, reporting systems and policies enabling Teamplate to grow from a start up organization to a highly effective and efficient organization at the time of its acquisition.

With Captaris, Richard held a number of positions including Director of International Sales Operations where key results included the implementation of a new company wide, SOX compliant incentive management system enabling management and sales staff to view accurate, real time sales data and compensation reporting.

Prior to Teamplate, Richard was the VP of Finance & Administration with Vertical Technologies Inc. (VTI). With VTI, Richard was responsible for all aspects of the Finance, HR and Administrative operations, implementing new business process and reporting systems enabling the company to become the leading Canadian supplier of legal ERP systems in North America and one of the top 100 software companies in Canada.

Richard is a Certified Management Accountant and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Commerce.
